What's actually on your Laredo electric bill
Your bill has two parts. The first is the delivery charge from AEP Texas, the utility that owns the poles, wires, and meter. That charge is the same no matter which provider you choose, and AEP Texas still handles outages and repairs.
The second part is the energy charge from your retail electric provider. That's the part you can shop, and it's where the savings are. Switching providers changes only this part of the bill. Same wires, same meter, same service, lower price.
Why the cheapest advertised rate often isn't
Electricity plans in Texas are advertised at one usage level, usually 1,000 kWh a month. A plan can look cheap at exactly that number and cost much more at yours. Watch for:
Bill credits that only apply if your usage lands inside a narrow window
Minimum-usage fees that charge you extra in low-usage months
Variable rates that start low and climb without warning
Early termination fees that make it expensive to leave
